Whole 30- Week TWO

I've already completed one full week of Whole 30. I have to say there are a lot of people who are skeptical or give me reasons that my list of food restrictions are actually good for me, but after reading most of my new book It Starts With Food I am totally convinced that this is the best decision I have ever made in the way of food choices. There are a lot of foods that are marketed to us as being heart healthy and full of fiber that you DO NOT NEED and can actually have a bad affect on our bodies functioning and overall health. You can get all of the things your body needs from meat, fruit, and veggies I PROMISE. After thirty days your body is supposed to be reset to make better decisions about the restricted foods and see how your body tolerates them. It is a thirty day period, but truly its the start of a lifestyle. For the rest of your life you decide if what your putting in your mouth is making you healthy or unhealthy and you can eat/drink things that are not making you healthy but you'll consciously decide you're going to indulge in this but 90% of the time you're going to eat what is making your body healthy. After this week I have definitely noticed my gassy belly which I had already assumed to be from dairy has disappeared, and I don't have a hard time avoiding the bad foods.

My husband originally decided he would still have his protein shake (whey protein powder mixed with milk) and he couldn't give up his sweetened dairy filled coffee. I finally talked him into doing it YESTERDAY of all days after reading him the book he finally got the point of the 30 day reset and agreed for 30 days he could commit. So he is drinking coffee with coconut or almond milk NO sweeteners, and he is going to EAT his protein rather than drink it with dairy. I was really proud of him for agreeing to do this with me because it's not about weight loss alone it's about your bodies overall health and with his family history of heart disease he wants to try to be at optimal health.

This weekend we ate at my brothers house and thankfully they are eating healthier too so we had plenty of fruits, veggies, meats, and nuts to eat while we visited. Tonight when we got home I planned out this weeks meals and we went shopping.

One of the things mentioned in the book is that they really want you to try to eat as much organic, free range, grass fed, wild caught animals as possible. They say on the list of organic importance is meat, seafood, eggs FIRST then your fruits and veggies and to stick with really watching the dirty dozen in your produce, so I tried to get as much of that as possible.

Tonight's meal was especially delicious.

I put brown mustard on catfish fillets and then crusted them with crushed almonds and baked them at 350 for about 25 minutes. TRULY make this. It was the best thing ever. I served it with sauteed spinach and roasted brussels. AGAIN meals like this make you not even feel deprived or restricted. Everyone can give up grains, dairy, and sugar for 30 days I PROMISE.
